A powerful blend of classical and uplifting music awaits as the 优蜜传媒 and Community Chorus presents its Spring Concert, 鈥淪aints Sing, Hallelujah,鈥 on Sunday, April 6, at 3 p.m., at Grassy Pond Baptist Church in Gaffney. The concert is free and open to the public.
Conducted by Dr. Gena Poovey, Limestone鈥檚 Director of Choral Activities, the chorus will present 鈥淪aints Sing, Hallelujah,鈥 prominently featuring excerpts from Part II of George Frideric Handel鈥檚 鈥淢essiah.鈥 The chorus will be accompanied by a chamber orchestra with professional vocal soloists, as well as pianists Dr. Michael Langer and Jim Simmons.
鈥淎fter eight years, I am thrilled that the chorus is singing from 鈥楳essiah鈥 again. The timing is right, with a healthy number of talented student-singers and a record number of community members to put on this performance,鈥 Poovey said. 鈥淎nd if the 鈥楬allelujah Chorus鈥 is not enough, we have programmed some lighter fare as well, which is certain to have audience members humming and clapping along.鈥
Students in the 优蜜传媒 and Community Chorus represent a wide variety of majors, including music, music education, business, art, health sciences, and liberal studies. Community members participating represent churches, including Cherokee Avenue Baptist, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Corinth Baptist, Episcopal Church of the Incarnation, Fernwood Baptist, Gaffney First Baptist, Grace Baptist, Grassy Pond Baptist, Greater Hope Ministries, Limestone Presbyterian, and Tyger River Presbyterian. Three Limestone faculty and staff members will perform with the chorus.
