Art Of Senior Kaitlyn Bolin Showcased At Limestone Gallery Through April 3

Abyss

An art exhibit by University senior Kaitlyn Bolin is now on display inside the Limestone Gallery inside the Hines & Riggins Center through April 3.

Bolin鈥檚 exhibit, The Abyss, features myths of the sea and the endless journey of the artist through new media, methodologies, and sense of self.

A reception, artist talk, and sale for the exhibit will take place on Friday, March 25, at 6 p.m.

鈥淢y senior show exemplifies the sea as a major theme and my journey to becoming an artist.鈥 Bolin said about her exhibit that debuted earlier this month. 鈥淭he title, The Abyss, refers to the topic of ocean mythology, but most importantly, also to the seemingly bottomless chasm of possibilities granted as an artist.

鈥淭o have the new gallery absolutely means the world,鈥 she continued about the new space inside 优蜜传媒's Hines & Riggins Center. 鈥淎s art majors, we spend literally our whole time at Limestone working toward this moment. Having an official gallery space to conduct our exhibition and the reception is the icing on the cake. It is so rewarding to have a space that compliments and enhances the pieces.鈥

As the show鈥檚 title suggests, Bolin鈥檚 work includes a variety of media that she had never before explored. Paintings, drawings, bookmaking, crochet, embroidery, and hand-built ceramics are all featured throughout the exhibit. Using those different methods that originated in different places around the world allowed her to tell the stories of sea myths from these different areas. From Native American to Greek culture, Bolin gives life to these various myths through her art.
